TY Admin - 28th November

Tug of War

The blitz takes place on Wednesday leaving the school at 9.00am and should be back for 2.30pm at the latest. You will need to get someone to collect you or make your way home as normal. There will be no classes for you when you get back. We are limited in numbers due to bus size but if your name isn’t down and you wish you could go then please email or see Mr Ryan Doherty as some students may not be able to make it and you could get their spot. We need everyone on the team to confirm they will be there as we can’t have half a team turning up. Please let us know if you won’t make it and let your work experience know if you will be absent on Wednesday. Students must wear their PE uniform i.e Half zip, dark bottoms, school coat. Bring a packed lunch also. The school is paying for the bus.

Open Night

Can you let Ms McGonagle know today if you will be in for the open night with your trade fair enterprise tomorrow. A few groups have said they would be ready. You can come in the afternoon to set up or from 6.30pm on. Teachers may need help during the day or at night also. Please check with them to see if you need to come in.

Safer Internet Ambassador

A massive thank you to everyone who applied for the SID ambassador Programme with Webwise. Unfortunately they could only accept two students from each school. Congratulations to Caoimhe Lafferty & Kayla McEleney on being chosen to take part in the programme this year.

Looking into Law

Send Ms K McGonagle an email if you have an interest in a career in Law and can stay in Dublin on the 1st and 2nd of February.

Many congratulations! Almost 300 schools applied for one of the 100 places on The Bar of Ireland’s Look into Law TY Programme and your school was randomly drawn in the lottery this week. There is no need to reply to this message. However, we now need you to select one student to attend the Look into Law Programme on behalf of your school but please do not send us the name yet.

Next week we will send you a document that will need to be completed by the school and the parents/guardians and returned to us. Your student must be available and willing to join us for the five days of the programme which is as follows (the exact timings may change slightly):

  • Online: Monday 30th January – 10am to 12.45pm
  • Online: Tuesday 31st January – 10am to 12.45pm
  • Onsite: Wednesday 1st February – 9.30am to 4pm
  • Onsite: Thursday 2nd February – 9.30am to 4pm
  • Online: Friday 3rd February – 9am to 10.30am

Please ensure that the document is completed by the school and the parents/guardians and returned to this email address by Monday 12th December 2022. Failure to do so may result in your student’s place being reallocated to another school. Unfortunately we cannot assist with accommodation in Dublin for the two days onsite. A light lunch will be provided on both of these days.

The Houses of the Oireachtas

Best of Luck to Caoimhe Lafferty as she starts her week's work experience with The Oireachtas this week.

Competitions

Reminder again about the following competitions.

www.graduate.ie ( a simple competition to enter) This is the competition that Tia Cooper has won the trip to Brussels with.

The aim of the SkillsBuild Challenge is to promote self-directed learning through the use of technology. This will be achieved through the completion of selected IBM SkillsBuild Badges and activities. We want to introduce Post Primary students to various emerging industries and present to them the potential third level and career opportunities available.
