Everyone in TY completes this award.
- You must have 1 hr of a new skill for 26 weeks ( your IT class)
- You must have 1hr of physical activity
- You must have 1hr of community involvement (eg Scifest, YSI, Future Leader, homework club, park run, tidy towns etc )
We will be registering for this at some point this week.
Task today:
- Your teacher will give you a record sheet that you need to complete each week. (Some students already have one).
- Place your name on the sheet and your PALs name is Ms Eimhear McGuinness
- Record any activity in each section you have completed last week e.g homework club would fall under community involvement.
- The supervisors will sign each row after 13 weeks or when you have completed a task.
- Your wellbeing teacher will give you this every Monday and collect them again.
- It is important that you are completing a task in each section every week. See below for more opportunities in volunteering which will help you achieve your Gaisce award.
Community Involvement
In general, everyone regardless of what subjects they have chosen should be getting involved in some community projects. This is an important part of TY and counts towards your final result. See below for some opportunities:
- Buncrana Youth Club is looking for volunteers in the Disney Playmakers programme. The programme is specifically designed for girls aged 5 – 8 who have never played football before, meaning coaches play a key role in kick-starting a life-long love of football and physical activity. To support these children require volunteers, to help encourage the girls to take part. The club is looking for TY students to volunteer. This is a good opportunity to reach your community target for Gaisce and gain some insight into teaching/coaching. The cohort started on 13th September 23 and will run for 10 weeks on a Wednesday evening from 6-7 at the club grounds.
- Buncrana Youth Club (SEN) -The FAI Football for All programme caters for kids 6 to 16 yrs with disabilities. The programme has proven to be a huge success! We would love to offer students from your TY Programme the opportunity to come along and help us on the programme. Paul Smyth who is the FAI Development Officer for Football for All for the Northern Regions is willing to facilitate a Workshop on Coaching people with Disabilities. We currently have Keri & Jodie Loughrey coaching on the programme and they are brilliant. We would love to involve more students if any TYs would like to join. Takes place Wednesday 7-8pm at the club grounds.
- Buncrana Park Run -every Saturday 9.30am at the shorefront
- Homework Club-after school for first years
Any volunteers please include their name on this spreadsheet link attached. Thank you to those already helping with this!
TY Roto for Homework club
- Tidy Towns - every Saturday 10.00am -11.00am Tourist office meet up.
If you are interested in any of the above please let Ms McGuinness know.

TY STEM Course for Girls
Please see google classroom. A recent link has been added which contains a parental consent form which must be completed this evening.
TY Chromebooks - VERY IMPORTANT
Can everyone please look after their allocated chromebook and make sure you put it back correctly and plug it in to charge. Students are not putting their chromebooks back into the correct slot which results in other students taking and using the wrong chromebook. No chromebook should be kept in a school bag all day or left sitting anywhere around the school. Once you have used your chromebook in class you then return it before moving onto the next class.
Parents email - VERY IMPORTANT
It is very important that students give us an email address for their parent or guardian so that we can communicate effectively with them as requested. Please take the time to fill in their email now. Parents Email Address 2023/24
