TY Careers trip 2022

Details of trip from Ms McCafferty

We are hoping to run our annual Careers trip for TY students this year. Thursday the 24th / Friday 25th of March.

The plan has to be finalised but the general idea would be to leave school at 8am on Thursday the 24th of March. We would travel to Sligo I.T for 10am and be there until approx 12. Then make our way to Galway. You would then have time for shopping, eating, maybe an activity like bowling in the evening.

We would then go back to the hotel.

Friday morning. Up and breakfast and then make our way to NUIG for their spring open day. Students will have the opportunity to see around the university and visit the various faculties they might have an interest in. Even if students are not thinking about Galway as a university option it is helpful to get a look around a campus and get a feel for what third level education is like. Then back on the bus and back home for Friday evening.

Ms. Grant has very generously offered to pay for the two coaches.

The cost of the hotel is 50 euro per student (Bed and breakfast)

The hotel can offer some triple rooms and some double rooms. Please fill in the google doc with names, discuss it with your classmates / friends who want to share a room. ( Boys only rooms, Girls only rooms) Please try not to leave anyone out. If you do not want to attend please let me know asap.

Belfast Trip

Students not going skiing will be taking a trip to Belfast on Thursday the 17th of February. We have provisionally booked the Titanic experience for the morning, we will then let students get some lunch in the city after which there will be the option to go shopping for a couple of hours or go to the Ulster Museum with their Art teacher Ms Boyce. As this is a normal school day we would hope that students all avail of the trip. Names are needed for tickets for both Titanic and the Ulster Museum. Please fill in the attached form today. The final cost of this trip will be confirmed tomorrow Tuesday.

TY sweatshirts

Your new sweatshirts look great. Can I ask you to wear them for PE, activities and all trips. Please let me know if you haven’t received a jumper.

Soar Workshop

This workshop was supposed to take place on the 10th of February

but has been postponed due to covid issues and a backlog of bookings now.

It looks like we will do the workshop in April instead.

John Paul II students

Our John Paul II students will be going on a trip to Knock on 22nd March to

attend a youth mass with other students from around Ireland.

They will also be invited to climb Croagh Patrick at the beginning of May.

A massive well done to all these students to date and to their teacher Ms O’ Connor,

especially for the great work they did with displays and prayers over the intercom

each morning last week for Catholic schools week.

World Affairs

The world affairs class along with the debating team and the Sociology and

Politics class are going on an overnight trip glamping to Glenveagh on the

14th and 15th of March. More details to follow on this from Ms Gorney.

Gaisce

All TY students are registered for the Gaisce award and should be

working on their physical activity one hour a week and their community

volunteering one hour a week. Both of these activities should be

completed for 14 weeks and signed off on the Bronze Record sheet.

Safer Internet Day

Well done to our SID ambassadors Leahrose and Kira for putting together various

activities for safer internet day this week. They have completed six hours

of training in advance of this and have a great programme planned. Any

useful links for students and parents will be attached in next week's news.

Work experience

Final call for the work experience forms and digital details completed

in the google sheet. Thanks to all students who have got them in to date.

Enterprise Competitions

There will be a meeting tomorrow for the students who will be entering

the regional finals of the NIFTE enterprise and student enterprise awards.

Date and time to follow. So please keep an eye on your emails.

In general, can I ask students to check their emails regularly and make

sure they have them on their phone.

Sign Language Classes

I am hoping to get these organised if there are enough students interested.

They will probably run for 6-8 weeks 1 hour a week after school. Up to now

with masks it has not been possible to organise as the instructor needs to lip read

the class which he couldn't do with masks. Please add your name to the attached

form if you would be interested in these classes. Sign Language 2022
