Dear Parent/Guardian,
Transition Year is getting off to a great start with students setting off on their Adventure Journey for Gaisce next week. We sincerely hope that this will be the start of a very enjoyable and fun-filled year for your son/daughter. Forthcoming Activity Our Adventure Journey overnight trip will take place on 12th of September to the Wild Atlantic Camp, Cresslough. This is an overnight trip with a surf lesson included.
The total price for this trip is €65 and includes the buses, surfing, guided walk which counts towards Gaisce and overnight accommodation with lunch provided at the surfing. Students will need swimwear, a towel and suncream for the surfing and team games (small separate bag advised) They don’t have to be good swimmers as they do not pass waist height Lunch is included at Mageraroarty beach though maybe bring some snacks of their own also. There is a coffee shop at the beach. Weather looks good so far. Bring comfortable trainers for the hike Day 2 and a raincoat. At the campsite there are various options for purchasing an evening meal on site e.g. pizza, burgers & chips etc, that suit all budgets. There is a toilet, shower, fridge and kettle available in each cabin and they should bring snacks along in their bags for the evening. Parents/Guardians will be asked to collect their son/daughter from the trip if they are found to be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, vaping or refusing to follow instructions. Everyone’s safety and welfare is our top priority. We are planning to return to Buncrana for around 2pm as there is a chance the junior cert results could be out that day. Please be available to collect your child or they can get the school bus home. We do not allow students to get dropped off along the route back to school. When your child signs up for TY there is an applied permission that they can go on trips.
If you do not wish your child to attend any of the activities notified please send an email or contact the school office. For overnight trips, a permission slip will be sent home. Please pay all trip fees using the online system called ‘easy payment’ located on the Scoil Mhuire homepage. Other reminders: I have asked all students to give me an email address for a parent or guardian so that I can set up a group email. Please encourage them to complete this information in the google sheet created and shared with them. Please make sure all students have work experience for every Wednesday organised and have the consent form signed by their employer. All forms and information regarding Work Experience is available from Ms Theresa McElhinney.
